In the Beginning… January 18, 2010

Hi, welcome to the free naked truth.
I’m guessing you’re reading this because you’ve been bombarded with the thousands of ‘free’ offers to get rich on the internet, make money from home, just work a few hours a day, have dollars rolling in even when you’re asleep, blah, blah, blah…
It sounds great, doesn’t it? Especially to someone like me.
My name’s Peter Grimley, I’m a 54 year old Australian, living in Queensland, and I’m unemployed.
I offer this information freely, -and now I feel naked.
I should also add I ain’t no Internet marketing Guru. If that’s what you’re looking for, there’s already about 10,000 or more of them around so I’m sure you won’t have any trouble tripping over one. What I am is a wannabe, just like you.
So this is my offer. I’m going to be the guinea pig. I am going to try to make money on the Internet, using the what I consider to be the best options available; and that means spending an absolute minimum amount of money.
In other words, I’m going to try to make money, out of trying to make money on the Internet.
And you get to watch me screw up, absolutely free.
With the help of my dear wife Shirl, we’ll be exploring the possibilities of online surveys, affiliate marketing, ebay stores, ebook stores, Google Adsense, advertising and anything else that comes to mind.
Also, an open forum will -I hope- play a big part; believe me, I’ll take all the help I can get. If you have any ideas, suggestions, thoughts or queries, please don’t hesitate.
So let’s start with how this site came about.
Step 1: Domain name.
I actually started a website a year or 2 back; mainly out of curiosity. It was called the Comensality, and it’s still going as strong as ever.
I often get as many as 2 visitors a month.
This site is actually hosted on that site -which is hosted on Lunarpages and yes, I am hoping for some kickbacks. On this day, January 18, 2010 I first applied for the domain name the-free-naked-truth with Godaddy; I intend to join Lunar’s and Godaddy’s affiliate programs today also. Hopefully you should see links on this page somewhere.
I can certainly recommend Lunarpages, as I have been with them for a while with no problems… but as I say, my website has hardly challenged their bandwidth. Lunar’s affiliate program offers $65.00 base commission rate, so I’m thinkin’ I might offer maybe a $20. cash back to anyone who starts an eligible lunarpages account through this site. Sound OK?
Anyway, back to the chronological storyline. First job, go to Godaddy.com and search for the really sexy domain name you have thought up for yourself. I just went with 3 of my most favourite words, ‘free’ (who doesn’t like that word?), ‘naked’ (very popular, or so I’ve been told…) and of course, ‘truth’; let’s face it, bad information is not only worthless, but bloody dangerous.
So this morning in the space of I guess less than 10 minutes, I registered the domain names “the-free-naked-truth.com” and “the-free-naked-truth.net”, for a little less than 40 bucks, US., for 2 years.
Since I already have a website, I can simply forward the domain to my existing site. This means, if anyone enters or searches for “the-free-naked-truth.com”, they will automatically be redirected to this page -which is actually: “thecomensality.com/the-free-naked-truth.
Incidentally, it is much cheaper and easier to get a ‘com’ or ‘net’ (US) than it is to get ‘com.au’. I recently bought the name “nakedhydroponics.com” (am I starting to sound obsessed?) with no hassles, but to get “nakedhydroponics.com.au” I had to supply a business registration no. Naked hydroponics is about growing plants ‘bare rooted’, by the way.
You could probably also save some money with package deals. Both Godaddy and lunarpages offer discounts for packages; Lunarpages offers a free domain name with a five year plan, Godaddy offers domains at $1.99 for some of their plans. It has been argued by some experts that it is better not to package, as owning your domain name without strings attached offers more independence.
Remember, trust no1, including me! Do your homework and check out all available offers. The World Wide Web is an intensely competitive place, and new deals are being struck all the time.
