Hi Ted, we've grown plants right through summer at Childers Qld, temps recorded up to 45 degrees. The green tubes do get hotter than the cream or unpainted ones, but the only problem we had was with 'blossom end rot' on some of the tomatoes; so yes we would recommend the lighter colours for very hot places, and probably a little dolomite added to the mix won't hurt either (see the article on growing tomatoes). Cheers.

We thank you kindly for the positive feedback Linda; it's very encouraging to some very amateur film makers. We will continue pumping them out, so everyone can see the whole process all the way to harvesting hopefully. Of course Murphy's Law insists that the one planter we have focussed on will be the one with all the problems...
cheers.

Hi linda, we have come to putting capsicums very firmly in the 'light feeder' category; I have touched on this in the article:
http://nakedhydroponics.com/correct-nutrient-levels-a-pictorial-guide/feed
We are still experimenting! We (rather naturally) initially based our dosages on the manufacturer's recommendations, but we're coming to suspect we've even been overfeeding tomatoes.
At the moment, our best recco's are to consider just tomatoes, eggplants and cucumbers as heavy feeders, and go easy on everything else.
In our video series, we are up to 10ml (always of each part) a fortnight, and just monitoring. If growth seems slow, we will move up to weekly changes.
I'm hoping better gardeners than we are will be better able to diagnose the plants needs, and maybe make better recommendations; because that's really what it's all about: being able to tell just by looking what a plant needs.
Tomatoes, for instance, will just drop any 'branches' that aren't receiving enough sun. This needn't be a cause for concern -provided there aren't too many of them!
I'm glad you liked the video's. There will be more to come. Cheers, pete.

Hi Pete,

Are you able to give me a guide on which vegies are heavy feeders and which are light. I see you mention lettuce versus tomato. What about capsicum etc?

thanks
Linda
